    Manny Pacquiao was born ‘Emmanuel Dapidran Manny Pacquiao’ in 1978.  He is a Filipino pro boxer and is considered to be one of the greatest boxers to have lived.  He was named ‘Fighter of the Decade’ for the 2000s by a number of prestigious boxing associations.  These included the World Boxing Organisation, World Boxing Council and the Boxing Writers Association of America.  Manny has won a number of other awards including Fighter of the Year throughout the start of the 21st century.

    He is widely regarded as the greatest southpaw boxer in history.  Manny is ranked No 2 as the greatest pound for pound boxer of all time.  In fact, Pacquiao won the Ranker’s award of best boxer in the 21st century.  He has won 12 world titles and is the first boxer to achieve major boxing world titles in four of the main divisions of boxing.  The divisions include flyweight, lightweight, featherweight and welterweight.  These span over four decades across the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s.

    Manny Pacquiao has earned around $20 million in pay-per-view buys and over $1 billion in income from his bouts.  In 2015 he earnt around $150 million which made him the second-highest athlete in the world.  Floyd Mayweather ranked 1st, earning $300 million that year.  This highlights the earning potential at the lucrative top-end of boxing.

    Manny’s interests extend well beyond boxing.  He has been involved in numerous business ventures, basketball, acting, music recording and TV presenting. Pacquiao also has a vested interest in politics.  In 2010, he was elected to the House of Representatives in Congress in the Philippines.  He was representing the area Sarangani.  Manny was re-elected once again in 2013, and elected as a Senator in 2016.  This will see him serve as an influential Senator until 2022.  This is particularly impressive bearing in mind Manny’s upbringing.  He dropped out of high school due to extreme poverty.  He had to leave home aged just 14, because his mother was not earning enough money to support him.
