The Sri Lanka cricket team is one of the best teams on the international stage. They acquired test status in 1961 and are now ranked 7th in the world in test cricket. They are also similarly ranked in One Day Internationals and T20. Their best-ever ranking was 1st in T20 and 2nd in both Test and ODI’s. Their first test match was in 1982 and they have played over 300 Tests since then. They have won almost 100 test matches in their history, losing 107 and drawing 92 tests.
They achieved particular success in the 1990s. During this decade they were victorious in the Cricket World Cup. They have also won the ICC Champions Trophy and the ICC T20 World Cup. The Sri Lankans have also come close, finishing as runners-up twice in the World Cup, and twice in the ICC T20 World Cup. The team holds a number of world records. This is why items such as a Sri Lankan cricket bat, or similar are in big demand with their supporters. They are nicknamed The Lions which explains the lion on their crest. They fall under the Sri Lankan Cricket Association authority. Their current coach is Dasun Shanaka.
