Sir John Young Stewart to give him his full name, was born in 1939.  He was given the nickname of the Flying Scot such were the speeds he got to. Stewart is currently the only Formula One Champion from the 1960s still to be alive. He was instrumental in improving safety on the F1 circuit. The Scot campaigned to improve safety in the track. This included improving the medical facilities available to drivers on the race circuits. It also included the track layout, to reduce collisions and crashes. This was one area he wanted to leave a legacy on racing, and one he has certainly achieved. He received a knighthood in 2001 for services to motor racing. This was in addition to the OBE he received in 1971.

He raced on the F1 circuit between the years of 1965 and 1973. During this time he won 27 races and achieved 43 podium finishes. This helped him to win 3 Championships and 2 runners-up finishes during those nine seasons. After his retirement, he became a key figure in racing by commentating for ABC network on the Indi 500. He also worked on TV commercials for some of the biggest companies in the world. All of this has made him a legend and a well-known worldwide celebrity. The John Stewart signature remains a key piece in any memorabilia auction or collection. We are proud to have items from one of racing’s key figures.
