Middlesbrough Football Club are based in North Yorkshire and currently play in the EFL Championship.  They were formed in 1876 and have played at three different grounds.  They originally played at Linthorpe Road for 11 years, then at Ayresome Park for 92 years up until 1995.  They have since played at the Riverside Stadium.  Their main rivals are Leeds United and North-East rivals, Newcastle United and Sunderland.

Middlesbrough were one of the inaugural members of the Premier League in 1992.  They have the unfortunate tags of being one of the first clubs to be relegated from the Premier League in its first season.  Their biggest success came in 2004 when they won the English League Cup.  They beat Bolton Wanderers 2-1 in the final, under Steve McClaren’s guidance as manager.

The win ensured they qualified for the UEFA Cup the following season.  It was their first time in Europe and they reached the last 16.  They did even better the following season reaching the final.  The final was played in Eindhoven where they lost to Seville 4-0.  Immediately after Steve McClaren left the club to manage England.  His successor was Gareth Southgate, the current manager of the England national football team.
