Conceived in 1863 as Stoke Ramblers, Stoke City are the second oldest football club in the world. Their triumphs span a 155-year history, from early wins and the Tony Waddington years to their Premier League promotion on the final day of the 2007-2008 season.

A tumultuous track record and catalogue of triumphant wins (and crushing failures) has marked the club’s rollercoaster history. Despite their many years in the game, they’ve never won an FA Cup or UEFA title – but they have various achievements to be proud of, reaching the FA Cup semi-final three times throughout their active years. They played their very first FA Cup final in 2010 – finishing respectably as runners-up to Manchester City.

Still, fans remain optimistic and fiercely loyal. Exile fan bases are located in far-flung corners of the world including Russia, the United States of America and Australia. Turnout is always high – with capacity crowds showing up for premiership games.  The Potteries Derby (which sees Stoke City battle local club Port Vale) is always a fiercely fought match which ends with narrow losses and tight wins.

Named ‘The Potters’ after the thriving local pottery industry which has dominated the surrounding areas throughout the club’s history, the team plays in a red and white strip branded with the town’s traditional coat of arms.
