West Bromwich Albion Football Club, or West Brom for short, are based in the Midlands.  The club was formed in 1878 and play all their home games at The Hawthorns.  They currently play in the second tier of English football in the Championship.  They were one of the founding members of the Football League when it was created in 1888.  They play in navy blue and white stripes, although during the 1880s they played in red and white!

They were originally founded as West Bromich Strollers by a group of workers from the George Salter’s Spring Works, based on in West Bromwich.  The club were renamed in 1980 to West Bromwich Albion and were the first team to take the suffix the Albion.  Albion was a part of West Bromwich were some of the players came from.  It is now known as Greets Green.

The Albion won their first trophy in 1883, the Staffordshire Cup.  The club turned professional in 1885 and reached the FA Cup Final for the first time in 1886, losing 2-0 to Blackburn.  They got to the final again in 1887 but lost to their Midlands rival Aston Villa by the same scoreline.  In 1888 it was a case of third time lucky where they beat Preston North End 2-1 to win the FA Cup for the first time.

They have been champions of England once in the 1919-1920 season.  They have reached a total of 10 FA Cup Finals, winning it five times.  The last time they won the Cup was in 1968.  They have also won the Football League Cup in 1966.
