Barnsley Football Club currently plays in the EFL Championship. They are based in the town of Barnsley in South Yorkshire. Their home ground is Oakwell where they have played since 1888. They moved there the year after they were formed in 1887. Oakwell has a capacity of 23,000. The club plays mainly in red and white, but also plays in green when they play away from home. Barnsley’s nickname is the Tykes, the Reds, or the Colliers.

The club is owned by Chien Lee. Chien led a consortium in 2017 to purchase a majority stake in the Tykes. Other owners include Paul Conway, Grace Hung, Neerav Parekh, and Billy Bean. The manager is Markus Schopp. Club honours include winning the FA Cup in 1912, two years after they were runners up in 1910. Barnsley beat Oxford to win the Football League Trophy in 2016. The same year they won the 2016 Football League playoffs by beating Millwall.

Barnsley have spent a considerable amount of time in the 2nd tier of English football, more so than any other club.
