Charlton Athletic is a professional football club based in southeast London. The club currently play in the English Football League One, which is the 3rd division in English football. Charlton were formed at the turn of the last century, in 1905. They turned professional in 1920, entering the English Football League a year later in 1921. The club’s nickname is any one of three nicknames. They are affectionately known as ‘The Addicks’ most commonly, but they are also known as ‘Red Robins’ or ‘The Valiants’.

Charlton Athletic have played on and off at The Valley since 1919. They have moved out the Valley a few times due to financial issues or safety concerns. They played at Catford in 1923-24 and Crystal Palace and West Hame for 7 years, between 1985 and 1992. The Valley is an all-seater stadium that holds 27,000 fans. The team play in red and white.

The clubs most successful period was during the 1930s where they finished runners up in the First Division. They reached two FA Cup Finals after World War II, winning the second one in 1947. The club are currently owned by Thomas Sandgaad and managed by Nigel Adkins.
