Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club, or Inverness CT currently play in the Scottish Championship. The club’s main nickname is Caley Thistle but they are also called the Caley Jags. They were founded fairly recently in football terms in 1994. Prior to this there were a number of football teams in Inverness including Caledonian, Clachnacuddin, Inverness Citadel, Inverness Celtic and Inverness Union.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle was founded after the merger of Caledonian and Thistle. The aim of the merger was to be able to gain entry into the Scottish League. Although fans from both clubs opposed the merger, it still went ahead. The merger did lead to the new club going into the Scottish Third Division. The new club have already won a number of honours. They won the Scottish Cup in 2015 and reached the final of the Scottish League Cup in 2016. Caledonian Thistle have also won the Scottish Football 2nd Division on two occasions.  Their best finish in the Scottish Premiership is third in 2015
