Partick Thistle currently play in the Scottish Championship. They are based in Glasgow in an area called Maryhill, not Partick as the name suggests. Despite their name they have not been based in Partick since almost the turn of the century. The club play in unique colours of yellow tops with red stripes for their home games. Their away strip is black with white sleeves. Both kit are quite striking, making any signed Patrick Thistle shirt quite a collector’s item.

The club goes by many nicknames, the most obvious being ‘Thistle’. They were founded almost 150 years ago in 1876. Thistle won the Scottish Cup over 100 years ago in 1921. They beat Rangers 1-0 with a Jonny Blair goal decisive in the game. The same final was repeated in 1930 although this time Rangers were victorious.

The only other major trophy they have won is the Scottish League Cup which was over 50 years ago in 1971. This was against the other ‘Old Firm’ side, Celtic. It was a famous victory against the record-breaking team managed by Jock Stein. Thistle went into the half-time break a staggering 4 goals up. Although their opponents pulled a goal back, Thistle lifted the trophy and the rest is history.
