Fulham Football Club were founded in 1879 and are London’s oldest professional football club. They were promoted to the top tier of English football, following the 2019-2020 season. They gained promotion by beating Brentford in the Championship Play-Off Final, the richest game in football. By winning the final they entered the riches of Premier League TV Revenue. The average income earned from each Premier League club is in the region of £100 million. Liverpool earned £175 million winning the Premier League in 2020.
Fulham have spent 27 seasons in the top flight, mostly in the 1960s and 2000s. The club play in a white shirt and black shorts and have done since 1903. Their main rivals are against fellow West London clubs , Chelsea, Queens Park Rangers and Brentford. Their nickname is the Cottagers, named after their home ground.
The club was synonymous with the ownership of Mohamed Al-Fayed who helped Fulham climb from the fourth tier in the 1990s, to the Premier League in the 2000s. Al Fayed bought the club for £6.25 million in 1997. Al-Fayed recruited Ray Wilkins as First Team Manager and Kevin Keegan as Chief Operating Officer. He pledged the club would reach the Premier League within five years. Ray Wilkins left in 1998 and Keegan helped Fulham gain promotion the following year. He left to become England manager in 1999. Jean Tigana joined in 2000 and gained promotion to the Premier League in 2000-2001. Fulham amassed over 100 points in the process, becoming the only English team to reach 100 points twice.
Hodgson transformed Fulham after he joined in 2007. 2009-2010 was the most successful in their history. They finished 12th in the Premier League and reached the Europa League Final. They eventually lost to Atletico Madrid 2-1 having drawn 1-1 at full time.
