Kilmarnock are a Scottish professional football club based in East Ayrshire. They are the oldest club that currently plays in the Scottish Championship. Kilmarnock played the first every professional football match in Scotland in 1873. As such they are the oldest professional football club in Scotland.

Kilmarnock’s home stadium is Rugby Park which holds almost 18,000 fans. The all-seater stadium is based in Kilmarnock too. The club’s main rivals are Ayr United who also play in Ayrshire. Both sides play in the Ayrshire derby, the first of which was 1910. Kilmarnock have won the most matches, winning 189 matches out of 256 contests. The team’s nickname is Killie, which is the nickname for people who come from Kilmarnock.

Kilmarnock have won a number of honours, the most recent being the Scottish Cup where they beat Celtic 1-0. Kilmarnock have qualified for European competitions 9 times. They reached the semi-finals of the Fairs Cup in 1967. Leeds United beat them in the semis and then went on to win the trophy. They have played in all 3 European Competitions including the European Cup, Cup Winners Cup and UEFA Cup. Kilmarnock are in a select few Scottish clubs to have done this.
