The popularity of Women’s Football is increasing year on year. This has been helped by the launch of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in China in 1991. It is estimated 1.2 billion people watched the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

According to FIFA there are approximately 30 million women playing football across the globe. Their aim is to help facilitate the growth of this to 60 million by 2026. The growth of women’s football in the United States has been significant. The USA continues to be the number one ranked international team in the world. Other top countries include England, France, Germany and Netherlands. The USA won the last Women’s FIFA World Cup in 2019.

Women’s Football in the UK has been on the rise. It is hard to believe the English Football Association banned women’s football taking place on the same grounds the men played in. The ban lasted from 1921 and 1971.  The league system for Women’s Football was introduced in 1991 and has grown considerably. As it stands there are four main divisions in the system. The top league is the Women’s Super League (WSL), which features some of the biggest clubs in UK. The standard of the games has increased dramatically, aided by the development of women’s grassroots football.

Interest in Women’s football took a huge leap when England won the Euro 2022 final against Germany. As expected, the demand for signed Women’s football shirts and other related memorabilia has skyrocketed!
