Gary Player is a retired professional golfer, originating from South Africa. The golfing legend is acknowledged as being one of the best golfers to have lived. Player won 9 major tournaments on the normal tour. He also won nine majors on the Champions Tour. He achieved a career Grand Slam at just age 29 by winning the 1965 US Open. The Grand Slam is achieved when a golfer wins all the major titles. Only five golfers have achieved such a feat. Such was his career achievements, in 1974, he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

He had a number of nicknames including the Black Knight, the International Ambassador of Golf, and Mr. Fitness. A man of many talents he has designed over 400 golf courses as a golf course architect. He has also either written or co-written over 30 books on gold training, design, motivation, fitness, and philosophy. Gary Player also set up The Player Foundation which helps underprivileged children receive an education. As of 2013, it had raised over $60 million by running charity golf events across the world.
