Tom Watson had an illustrious golf career. During the 1970s and 1980s, he was considered to be one of the best golfers on the planet. He was ranked World Number 1 between 1978 for four years, until 1982. Watson was ranked 2nd the following two years. He was top of the PGA Tour Money list a total of 5 times, helped by victory in eight major tournaments.

The golf legend is renowned for his long career, playing until he was almost 60. He won five Open Championships and as such was known as one of the finest link players of all time. He also finished runner-up on two separate occasions in 1984 and 2009. His other major victories include one US Open title and an additional two Master’s victories. Watson took part in 4 Ryder Cup tournaments, captaining America to victory in 1993. He would go on to captain the Americans again 21 years later in 2014 in Scotland. On this occasion, the Europeans won the tournament.

Many people consider Watson as the most complete golfer of all time and always playing with the utmost honesty. He was named PGA Player of the Year six times.
