Padraig Harrington plays on the European Tour and the PGA Tour.  He was born in Dublin and was the youngest of five sons.  He attended Colaiste Eanna secondary school which has now produced two Ryder Cup captains.  Padraig had a successful  amateur career and turned professional in 1996.   He joined the European Tour, becoming a professional at a fairly young age.  Prior to this, he studied accountancy at University whilst also playing amateur golf.

He has won three major championships.  He won the Open Championship in both 2007 and 2008.  Harrington also won the PGA Championship in 2008.  He is the current captain of the European team for the 2020 Ryder Cup.  Padraig has spent over 300 weeks in the world rankings Top 10.

Harrington married his childhood sweetheart, Caroline in 1997.  They have two sons – Patrick and Ciaran.  Padraig is the Irish version of the name Patrick, which is used more regularly in Ireland.  His caddy is also his brother-in-law.  He has a number of well-known people in his family, including his brother Tadhg who is a professional golf coach.  Harrington has had laser eye surgery in an attempt to improve his game.

Padraig is renowned for his charity work and is a Global Ambassador for Special Olympics.  This is the largest sports organisation in the world for people with intellectual difficulties.  He is also patron of the Oesophageal Cancer Fund (OCF), having lost his dad to Oesophageal cancer.
