Edinburgh Rugby were founded in 1872, although the club has gone through a number of reiterations and name changes. After the rugby union was made professional in 1995, the Scottish Rugby Union made inroads to form professional teams in Scotland. England were already ahead of the game and had a number of professional. The SRU worked on combined district teams to form a smaller number of professional clubs. Edinburgh Rugby is now one of two professional rugby clubs in Scotland. They play in a traditional Scottish navy top, with red additions. We do have a signed Edinburgh shirt in the stunning home navy strip. The away kit, features a white top and white shorts.
The club have played at a number of stadiums over the years. They have recently built the Edinburgh Rugby Stadium, although they also play at Murrayfield. Edinburgh play in the United Rugby Championships and finished 7th in the season 2021-22, one ahead of the main Scottish rivals. Their most notable success to date was reaching the European Rugby Challenge Cup Final in 2015. They played Gloucester at Twickenham but lost in the final. It was a major achievement getting there and they remain the only Scottish rugby team to get so far.
