Bernard Tomic is a professional tennis player from Australia. He was born in Stuttgart to a Croatian father and Bosnian mother. His family migrated to the Gold Coast in Australia when he was 3 years old. Tomic’s highest world rank was World No 17.
As a junior Tomic won a number of Orange Bowl titles, one of the best tournaments on the junior tour. We won the U12s, U14s and U16s titles. He gained direct acceptance at the 2007 Australian Open at just 14 years old. He won the Australian Open Juniors tournament in 2007 and US Open Juniors title in 2009. He ended his Junior career ranked No 2 in the world. He had won 9 singles titles, including the 2 Grand Slams.
At the age of 15, Tomic began his professional career at the Australian Open. He did however return to the junior circuit that season, before returning once again to the senior circuit. Injuries did limit his progress. He had to retire from the 2014 Australian Open with a groin injury against Rafael Nadal. Tomic had to undergo two hip surgeries and did find it hard to fully recover from them.
He experienced a rapid decline in 2017 and was fined at Wimbledon for saying he was bored and faked an injury. His racket provider, Head, subsequently dropped him. He is famous for a number of controversies including running asking for his father to be ejected from the court and for being imprisoned for head butting his hitting partner.
He later appeared on a reality TV show, the Australian version of ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!’
