Rod Laver is a former professional tennis player from Australia. The tennis legend was ranked the number one player in the world between 1964 and 1960. Laver was also ranked the best amateur player between 1961 and 1962. His astonishing 198 singles titles have never been beaten. He won at least 10 titles per year for 7 years between 1964 and 1970. Laver was versatile across all surfaces and played just as well on wood, carpet, grass, clay, and hard surfaces.

Laver was quite short for a tennis player at 5ft 8 inches. Despite this, he had an excellent serve and volley game, combined with strong groundstrokes, speed, and accuracy. Laver was victorious in 11 Grand Slam single titles. He remains the only player to have won two single Grand Slams twice. This is where he won all four major singles titles in the same year. He did this in 1962 and 1969. Laver has won each major at least twice. He is one of only three men to have done this.

Along with all of his grand slam victories, Laver also has five Davis Cup titles he won with Australia. He has a tournament and Arena named after him. This is the Laver Cup tournament and the Rod Laver Arena.
