Samantha Stosur is an Australian professional tennis plater.  She was born in Australia in 1984 and was the top-ranked Australian singles player for over 450 consecutive weeks.  She was also Number One in the doubles ranking, which she held for 61 weeks.  Her career high in the world singles ranking was an impressive No4.  She has good career stats, winning an impressive 38 titles on the WTA tour.  Stosur has won 9 singles tournaments, 26 doubles tournaments and 3 mixed doubles.   These wins have contributed to prize money in excess of an impressive $19 million.

Stosur has won seven Grand Slam tournaments.  She beat Serena Williams in the 2011 US Open Final to win her first singles tournament.  Stosur has won three Gran Slam doubles tournaments – the 2015 US Open, 2006 French Open and 2019 Australian Open.  In addition to these she has also won three mixed doubles tournaments: the 2005 Australian Open and the Wimbledon Championships twice in 2008 and 2014.   She has also been beaten six times in the final.

Samantha is of Polish descent but was born in Brisbane.  She went to move onto Adelaide aged six, following the Queensland floods.  She started playing tennis in Brisbane aged 8 and then moved back to Queensland.  Stosur joined the Queensland Academy of Sport aged 14, followed by the Australian Institute of Sport aged 16.  She started playing professional tennis in 1999.
